IBM Smarter Cities - City Operations

Karen A. Parrish is the Vice President of Industry Solutions for the Public Sector which includes Healthcare, Life Sciences, Education, Government, Defense and Smarter Cities. In this IBM Software Group role, she is responsible for the cross brand and cross divisional strategy and execution for industry specific solutions across these industries worldwide. Previously, she was the VP of Industry Solutions and Frameworks, IBM Software Group focused on incubating new industry offerings across seventeen industries for our Smarter Planet initiative.

Prior to this, Karen led the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing business for seven years, was the Executive Assistant to the General Manager of Pervasive Computing, and was the Manager of Solutions Development in IBM’s Sales and Distribution division. She spent her first ten years in IBM’s sales force as a Client Executive.

Karen attended Fordham University where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree and later obtained her MBA from Pace University. She has been married for twenty years and is the mother of two daughters. Karen is the President of the Board of Directors for the Pleasantville Academy of Music Arts, leads two Girl Scout troops and is on the Board of Directors of SmartRoom.

Chris O’Connor is responsible for the product strategy and engineering for the Industry Solutions Software division within IBM Software group.  This role involves working with the IBM Industry sector teams to create value add applications for client required capability and functionality.  Chris is currently a member of the IBM Technology Team that formulates IBM's technical roadmap.  This role reports directly to IBM's CEO and senior leaders. Prior to assuming this role in December 2009, he was Vice President of Strategy and Market Management for the Tivoli brand within IBM Software Group.  He has been active in the IT Industry for the past 20 years both within IBM and at other industry software providers.
