Advanced Persistent Threats eSummit

Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) are typically considered the pinnacle of the most dangerous attack types. APT actors are thought to deploy well-funded and purposeful multi-phased strategic cyber attacks against very specific targets. In other words, these threat actors launch a “stop at nothing” attack methodology to find a way into victims’ networks, and then use sophisticated techniques to remain undetected for extended periods of time, secretly bleeding sensitive and highly valuable information from the victim’s systems.

The problem with this terminology, however, is that most attackers today don’t actually use “advanced” techniques and can only be persistent for as long as the organization they’re infiltrating fails to detect an intrusion. What this means is that most companies don’t have to actually deal with APTs. However, enterprises should design the security program around the idea that they could be the next APT victim—any program built to protect, detect, and mitigate against the most malicious attacks will be significantly better prepared at handling other security events.

Attend MISTI’s Advanced Persistent Threats eSummit to learn leading practices on readying your organization for an APT—as well as some of the other, more common attack types you’ve surely identified in your network.
